Hibernian have confirmed more positive covid-19 tests meaning their next two Scottish Premiership matches are off

Hibernian's Scottish Premiership games against Ross County and Livingston have been postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Easter Road club confirmed two positive cases just hours before Saturday's game against Ross County and given the number of players, who were considered close contacts, Hibs couldn't field their team.

This match was postponed to Wednesday, but after more positive tests at the Edinburgh club he was recalled again.

The latest outbreak means, that Hibernian's game in Livingstone is also out.

The rules of the SPFL stipulate, that the teams must have to play the match 13 able players including goalkeeper and besides 10 players must have more than 18 years.

With the upcoming national team break, it is likely, that Hibernian's next game will be at Hampden Park in the League Cup semi-final against Rangers 21. November.

“This decision was made after that, which has seen a large number of first team players test positive in recent days, employees and development team,” said a Hibs statement on Tuesday.

"Following all the guidelines, we wouldn't be able to field a team for even one match, which led us to another alternative, how to postpone matches.

“Individuals will not be named due to medical confidentiality and those, who it concerns, are now isolated in accordance with the protocol.

“We are in ongoing discussions with NHS Lothian to reduce the spread of Covid and HTC has subsequently been closed for thorough cleaning. We have also completed an internal investigation into the outbreak and are confident in our processes.

"We will continue to take all necessary measures, because the safety of our players and staff is of the utmost importance.

“We would also like to apologize to our supporters, who planned to attend the elaborate match in Ross County. We made our thoughts incredibly clear to the SPFL before, as the match was rearranged, and it took them until today, after more positive tests and several meetings were recorded, to make the right decision, for which we thank them.'
