“His family, who was at home at the time, she was unharmed, but obviously shaken. It was a disheartening experience for them, also for Victor, when he found out after the match, and the club gives them full support.
“We invite everyone, who has information about a crime, to contact the police.”
Lindelof's wife Maja said in an Instagram story: “During Victor's match this Wednesday night, our house in Manchester was broken into.
"I was at home alone with both children, but we managed to hide and lock ourselves in the room, before they entered our house.
“We are fine under the circumstances, but it was obviously a very traumatic and scary moment for both of them and for my young children.
“We are now in Sweden and spending some free time with our families.”
Ralf Rangnick, interim United manager, confirmed, that Lindelof will not play against West Ham on Saturday, to be with his family.
“I spoke to him for a long time on our flight home from London and we also spoke about this morning 20 minutes, 25 minutes,” said the German.
"He told me, what actually happened and that it was a really traumatic event, especially for his wife and even for his three-year-old son.
“He told me, that now he must stay at home. He does not want to leave his wife and family alone, which as a father of two I fully understand.”
“We agreed, that he won't train today and he won't be on duty tomorrow either.”
Sancho doubts the fight with West Ham
Jadon Sancho may also be missing against West Ham, who was given compassionate leave after the death of a family member.
“Yesterday (on Thursday) he didn't train, because he kept asking us, so we can't train, as he attended the funeral on Wednesday,” Rangnick said.
“It still hit him hard. It is expected, that he will return to training this afternoon at three o'clock, but it is not certain at the moment, whether he will be available for the match tomorrow.”
“He was an important member of the family, someone, with whom he was very close all his life, so I have to wait and see, talk to him before practice and after practice and then decide, will it be available tomorrow.”
