Shrewsbury City condemned a small number of their fans for this, that they allegedly sang in Liverpool on Sunday “shameful and offensive” chants.

Shrewsbury, which was defeated 4:1 in Sunday's game 3. FA Cup rounds at Anfield, is investigating, to help the police identify the persons involved.

The League One club said in a statement: “Shrewsbury City Football Club is disgusted and appalled, having seen and heard reports on social media yesterday of the vile and abusive chanting and behavior of a very small minority of our 'supporters'.

“These people do not represent our club in any way shape or form and we are liaising with West Mercia Police, to try to identify those responsible, who will then liaise with Merseyside Police.

“If any supporters have any information, which could help us identify those responsible, they can contact the club in confidence and we will use this information as part of our investigation with the police authorities.”

“Life ban”

Shrewsbury goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne was appalled by the alleged chanting and called for action to be taken against those involved.

In a social media post in response to the circulating video, Burgoyne wrote: “As for these Shrewsbury fans!

“You should be ashamed of yourself. Liverpool showed nothing but respect today. Shocking absolutely shocking! Kick them out and ban them for life!”
