Europa League, Marseille and Galatasaray

The European League match between Marseille and Galatasaray was at about 10 minutes interrupted after that, what fans of rivals threw flares and firecrackers at each other at the Stade Velodrome.

The match ended on Thursday :, but more than 30 minutes after the final whistle, the pockets of the opponent's fans were beating in the stadium.

Despite increased security and a buffer zone between approx 2 500 objects were thrown both ways by away fans and Marseille supporters at the end of the first half.

Referee Pawel Raczkowski interrupted the match, because the police intervened, to restore order.

Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim went to the fans of his team, to try to calm the situation, while Marseille captain Dimitri Payet did the same.

The match continued, with approximately eight minutes remaining in the first half to the sound of firecrackers. At the start of the second half, there were brief clashes between the stewards and some Marseille fans.

Moments before the final whistle, Galatasaray forward Mbaye Diagne and Marseille defender William Saliba grabbed and shoved each other on the touchline.

Marseille were recently involved in fan violence during a French league match in Angers.

Last month, there were also serious disturbances at the Awesome v Marseille match. It has been suspended and will be repeated next month.

In another match this month, fans threw torn seats and tried to fight each other at half-time during the Northern der between Lens and Lille.

Turkish ultras often travel in large numbers. Two seasons ago there was a fight before Paris Saint-Germain-Galatasaray and four years ago Lyon hosted Besiktas.
