Manchester City player Joao Cancelo was left with cuts and bruises around his right eye after four people were attacked during a burglary at his home.

The Portuguese defender said in a post on Instagram Tales, that he defended himself and protected his family. He has a 2-year-old daughter Alicia with his partner Daniela Machado.

“Unfortunately, today I was attacked by four cowards, who hurt me and tried to hurt my family,” wrote Cancelo.

“When you show resistance, it will happen. They managed to take all my jewelery and leave me with my face in this condition.' An Instagram photo showed a deep cut above his right eyebrow and cuts closer to his eye.

“I don't know, how can there be people with such meanness,” wrote.

"The most important thing for me is my family and luckily everyone is fine. And I after many obstacles in my life, this is just another one, which I will overcome. Firm and strong, as always.” Premier League champions Metropolis have provided further details of the incident.

“We are shocked and horrified, that João Cancelo and his family were subjected to a burglary in their house this evening, during which Joao was also attacked,” City said in a statement.

“Joao and his family support the club and help the police with their investigations, as they investigate this very serious matter.”
